• Incorporated as the City of North Port in 1959, previously known as North Port   Charlotte

• Located in the southernmost part of Sarasota County, it's southern boundary abuts   Charlotte County

• 90 miles south of Tampa between Sarasota and Ft. Myers

• The Myakka River provides access to the Gulf of Mexico

• Population is approximately 22,000 year round residents with an additional 5,000   seasonal residents

• Four new voluntary annexed properties increased North Port's total size to 103   square miles, making it the second largest city in land area in the State of Florida

• Twelve parks and recreation centers in North Port are owned by the city and   maintained and operated by Sarasota County

• Altitude is five to twenty-five feet above sea level

• Winds prevail easterly with an average velocity of 12 - 18 mph

• Average annual rainfall is 49.53 inches with two thirds occurring from June through   September

• Temperature averages at 76 degrees with the low month being January at 63   degrees and the high month being August with an average temperature of 82.6   degrees
